Artwork of "Let Demon Dogs Lie" released--Southern Haunts 2
Above is the artwork for my story, "Let Demon Dogs Lie" included in Southern Haunts 2: Demons in the Darkness, to be released in a couple of weeks in March 2014. No inkling of the book cover yet, but artwork for the stories were released on Southern Haunts Facebook.
Excerpt from "Let Demon Dogs Lie":
A low growl expanded until it filled the air. He wanted to shine his flashlight at the shadow, dispel it, but it felt heavy in his hand. When the cloud passed, moonlight revealed the hound. Lee almost lost control of his bladder. He didn’t, but the flashlight dropped from his fingers. Its light blinked out. He heard Jenna gasp. He wanted to comfort her, but felt sure he needed it just as much.
A black dog, tall and wide as a full grown man, took a couple of steps toward them. It bared sharp, yellow fangs big as Bowie knifes. Drool dripped from them to the dried grass below. Unable to help it, Lee wet his pants when he saw the animal’s eyes. It had four glowing orbs that burned with a smoldering red light like the fires of Hell.
Do real dogs have red eyes? Forget that, do real dogs have two pairs of eyes? Not in my reality.
“Jenna, run,” he said in a whisper, dragging her along as he bolted for the car. “Oh, God, hurry!”
