My Signing at Dragoncon

Well, here is the first photo that I finally am uploading somewhere--from Dragoncon 2007. I am sitting with Dinah Roseberry, my editor behind the Schiffer Books table in the dealer's room. This is just before my first signing, on Saturday, September 1st. I did couple more signings--but not for two hours though like this one. Not long after I signed I went back to my room to change into my jedi costume, then later into the tuskan one.

But the signings were fun and I liked talking to those who came looking for me or decided they wanted the book. I can tell you a friend was told may have been 55,000 at that convention and yeah, it sure looked like it to me. One author friend, Theresa Bane, did a vampire panel and told me was it felt nervewracking, as she never had 200 in the audience before. Sometimes you had to miss a panel you wanted, like my husband for the Eureka one as it was in a small room and seemed everyone likes Eureka. Same went for the parties. If you didn't get there early, you didn't get in.

I did get in the ones I managed to get to--like the Ghost Hounds of Georgia and their ghost hunting stories. Same for the vampire one in the Goth track and the writing one on writing dragons and demons in the Writer's Track after.

Though I love Dragoncon I agree the smaller cons are much better and you have way more fun at them. I think it's time for dragoncon to use a convention center.

What smaller cons are there for fantasy? I'd like to go to one, but I just don't know enough about them to even start researching.

One is Ravencon in Richmond, Virginia that I am Publicity Director for: http://ravencon.com .
There's Shevacon in Roanoake, Virginia in February--http://shevacon.org
And Marscon in Williamsburg, Virginia: http://marson.net .
Cpncarolinas in North carolina in June, Balticon in may in Maryland. Just google science fiction conventions and see what comes up--check their websites.

Thank you, Pamela! I checked in my area and there's one that I missed just as I was coming home from RWA. That's ok, there's always next year!
