Author Appearance at Monster Fest in Chesapeake, Va. October 6, 2018

Monster Fest returns for its 15th year. The one-day horror convention's free and open to the public, family friendly, with panels, costume contests (one adult, other for children), trick-or-treating at some of the vendors form the kids (must sign up first), and movies. It will be held as always at Chesapeake Central Library, 298 Cedar Road, Chesapeake, Virginia.
I'll have two tables-one for my books that Ill be selling and will sign, and the other for Paranormal World Seekers paranormal reality show--with its DVDs for sale, including the new Barons Pub of Suffolk, Virginia investigation for sale. And I will be moderating a panel on Frankenstein the novel by Mary Shelley, joined by two other writers. It happens at 4:00 p.m.

Author Appearance at Mysticon in Roanoke, Virginia This Weekend

You can catch me at Mysticon this weekend, from February 23-25th, at the Holiday Inn-Tanglewood, 4468 Starkey Road, SW, Roanoke, Virginia 24018.  Registration opens Friday at 1:00 P.M. (The line may begin forming at 12:30. Lines will not be allowed to form before 12:30) And the convention hasn't sold out, so you might be able to get a walk-in membership, even one day, but check the website to be sure.

Capclave is a small relaxed literary convention with a program that usually focuses on the short fiction form. Our Guests of Honor and other notable authors, editors, artists, and fans of the short fiction form will explore the creation and enjoyment of short fantasy and science fiction genre stories.
Past Capclaves have hosted discussions with authors and fans; readings by authors; a dealer's room with books, magazines, artwork, crafts, and other science fiction and fantasy related items; exhibits by artists; space science presentations from NASA; a hospitality suite; room parties; interesting conversations with other fans and professionals; and a relaxed atmosphere for visiting old friends and meeting new friends.

My Author Appearance at Scares That Cares Weekend In Williamsburg, Virginia June 28th

I will be a part of the author programming at Scares That Cares Convention on Saturday, June 28th. http://scaresthatcareweekend.com/events/author-programming-schedule/ I will be doing a reading and selling and signing my horror/dark fantasy fiction and my nonfiction ghost books (particularly, Virginia's Haunted Historic Triangle: Williamsburg, Yorktown, Jamestown, and Other Haunted Locations) at 10-11 a.m, sharing the hour with author Nikki Hopeman. Then at 5:00-5:45 p.m. I will be the moderator of Desert Island Horror-- with horror authors Brian Moreland, Hunter Shea, Matthew Warner, Sultan White, and Lorne Dixon. The premise is these authors have been shipwrecked on a desert island, and are only allowed to bring one horror novel, one horror short story, and one horror movie with them. They will tell the audience what they picked, and why. Then the audience gets to tell their picks. Having a Book Release Party at Ravencon This Saturday, April 26th

I will have a book release party for Southern Haunts: Devils in the Darkness this Saturday, April 26th from 10-11 a.m. at Ravencon . Cupcakes and drinks (nonalcoholic and Darkside red wine and Vampire white wine will be served and she will read her story, "Let Demon Dogs Lie" from it. Afterwards, there will be the drawing for a basket of devilish goodies, including a bottle of Darkside red wine) for one lucky winner, and sales of the book.

Then the library will close its doors at 5pm and re-open at 7pm. In honor of Monster Fest's 10th anniversary, for the double feature shock show we are showing two movies that we showed at the very first Monster Fest: "Frankenstein meets the Wolf Man" and "Horror of Dracula"
Before the movies, thrill to live music by "The Sons of Frankenstein"!!!

Fantasci X-A Cool Convention on a Hot Day

Saturday, July 7, 2012 was hot, but inside the Chesapeake Central Library in Chespeake, Virginia, most of us kept cool during Fantasci X, the one-day science fiction, fantasy and horror convention the library has put on for ten years now.

My husband, Bill and I got up at 5:00 a.m. and by 5:30 were dressed and had the car packed with my books, and other things. After watering my plants as this was to be the hottest day this week at 104, with heat index way worse, we drove out of the driveway, on our way to Chespeake. We made a brief stop at a McDonalds on 450 for breakfast and use of their restroom, then we sped down the road on the last leg of our journey. By 8:00 a.m. we got to the library, unloaded the car, and parked it. By 8:30 a.m. my table was decorated and my books out. I took photos just before the public was allowed in at 10 a.m. then got behind my table and ready for seven hours of a fun time.

There was the Klingon jail, set up for charity where you could have your best friend, er enemy, arrested and released on bail, the money going to charity. The Klingons serenaded their prisoners to tunes of “Row, row your boat or the Barney the Purple Dinosaur “I Love You” theme. Sheer horror. The Umbrella Corporation was there to watch out for the zombie apocalypse, so the one-day convention could goon uninterrupted. Or maybe they were secretly infecting us all.

Tidewater alliance was there in their Star Wars costumes, while Star Trek groups paraded by. There were Legos, two incarnations of Doctor Who, artists with wonderful art, like my friend Susan L. Wickham, dealers selling cool items I never got time to purchase (next time, next time. . .), and authors with their books to buy and get signed. There were even panels on writing, alien food and what to do during a zombie apocalypse, and even lightsaber duels.

By 5:00 p.m. everyone was packed up and gone, and some headed over to a nearby Mexican restaurant for dinner. Some headed back to the library for movie night that started at eight, rest of us (like Bill and me) drove home in super hot, humid heat. It was a good day though.  See you next year, Fantasci!
